# Funding Resources

for Larger Energy Improvements

## How to Fund Energy Efficiency Upgrades

It can be less expensive than you might think to pay for your property’s energy efficiency upgrades. Qualifying properties may receive no-cost energy assessments and installation of eligible energy-saving products. For larger energy-efficiency projects such as HVAC, insulation or electrical upgrades, additional state and federal funding opportunities may be available.

Additional funding may help cover HVAC upgrades, building envelope improvements, electrical upgrades and larger capital projects. See below for additional funding opportunities.

## Federal Home Energy Rebates Program (Includes IRA Home Energy Rebates and HEAR)

Multifamily property owners can use these rebates when making whole-home or building energy efficient upgrades, like for HVAC systems or insulation and air sealing. Maximum rebates may include the following:

$8,000
Heat pump HVAC

$1,750
Heat pump water heater

$4,000
Electrical panel upgrades

$2,500
Electrical wiring

$1,600
Insulation/air sealing

To qualify for the rebates, at least 50% of a property’s residents must meet the income requirements. Low-income households could have 100% of project costs covered and moderate-income households could have up to 50% covered.

## Other Financing Resources

Need additional assistance? The programs below are a great place to start.

### Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards (AEPS)

Property owners installing qualifying renewable energy systems may be able to generate and sell Alternative Energy Credits (AECs), creating an additional revenue stream.

### Learn more at the [Pennsylvania Alternative Energy Credit Program website](https://pennaeps.com/) or fill out the [contact form](https://pennaeps.com/contact-us/).

### Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority (PEDA) Financing

PEDA supports energy efficiency and clean energy investments through grants, loans and financing options. Projects may include building retrofits, renewable energy systems and high-performance building improvements.

### Learn more at the [PEDA website](https://www.pa.gov/agencies/dep/programs-and-services/energy-programs-office/financial-options/peda).

### Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA)

Programs administered through the CFA may support solar, renewable energy, alternative energy and energy efficiency projects.
